From bare sand to blue water.
A pool starts as a hole in the ground and a shell on a truck. These photos are sorted by what is in the frame: the dig and the crane lift, finished outdoor pools, indoor pools, and the stone and water features that finish a yard.

Building it
Crane lifts, shells sitting in the excavation, a crew working inside a shell, a liner pool taking on water and a small spa shell set in sand. Poolside handles the excavation and preparation before the pool or spa goes in.
Outdoor pools
Free-form shapes with slides, a lagoon pool with a sun shelf, a rectangular fiberglass pool with an exposed-aggregate deck, and pools on lakeside lots and farmhouse yards.
Indoor pools
One under a timber ceiling, one a vinyl pool framed by slate tile and timber walls. Vinyl liners and steel walls are covered on the vinyl pools page.
Stone and water features
A waterfall over fieldstone, a stone wall behind a slide, flagstone coping at an infinity edge, a curved retaining wall on the lake, a gazebo on a concrete deck, and a close look at mosaic tile along a waterline.
